PJ Hornberger is a true folk artist. She has no formal art training, just a strong determination to do it her way. Her primitive style comes from her heart, visions, inspiration from the world around her, people she meets, and life experiences. Her sense of humor shows in the bright colors she enjoys using. In her world, art should “talk” to you, or tell a story.

She began carving first, and found what she loved. After several years, she began to paint in her head. She had never seen primitive paintings, but knew what she thought they should be. Her husband encouraged her, and bought her first canvas. Within a couple of years, she was dividing her creative time between carving & painting. Her favorite is usually what she’s working on at the time. She creates in two mediums, carving wood & painting on canvas, always in a primitive folk art style.

Her work is collected by special people that have encouraged her talent, supported her career, and pushed her to do more. She’s thankful for all of them! They’ve helped make her dream come true.
